I've bought the PL2303HX which seems to be on the list for that driver, or at least the HXD is, which is probably the same or very similar. So hopefully it'll be OK.

the EOL'd HXA is the HX (rev A), the HXD on that page is "HX (rev D)"
if you don't need the crystal to operate it, and PIN 25 => GND, then -hopefully- is the D variant :

Prolific had issues with those counterfeit ones - info on the page I posted above- I read somewhere that's the reason they EOL'd some of their series.

It looks like I've bought the HXA version so will need a 12MHz crystal to run it. I'll build some boards up and we'll see how they go.
