Re: Serial SD data storage?

How do you set the filename that data is saved to or retrieved from? Andrew The OpenLogger is open source so you have the code that it runs here: https://github.com/sparkfun/OpenLog/blob/master/firmware/OpenLog_Firmware/OpenLog/OpenLog.ino It should be possible to modify that code so that the logge...

Re: Slot Interface

I can just about cope with dip smt by hand, so how on earth you managed a qfn by hand amazes me. I guess 2040 are about the only viable micros readily available at present? I saw a Ben Heck video the other day where he was using a little 8 bit atmel because most other stuff has huge lead times. Sol...

Re: Slot Interface

Ah I see. How did you get the pico on the SD datapak, by hand? Yes, I made about 5 in total, and the RP2040 was a pain. It's a qfn package so not easy to hand solder. I had a couple of failures where the chip didn't work due to lack of solder or shorts. It also seems to be a fairly delicate device....

Re: Slot Interface

What about those mini pico breakouts like this type: That's an interesting breakout. It is a bit expensive, though, and doesn't seem to have all GPIOs on easily PCB mountable pads. I don't see how it would be soldered onto a PCB without pin headers, either, as there's components on the back of the ...

Re: Slot Interface

Ah that looks very useful - any chance of shrinking to fit inside a comms/link or PSU case, maybe with gpio brought out onto headers? It could be shrunk down, but I think the Pcio would have to be put on the PCB like I did for the SD datapack. That would mean it wouldn't be able to be made by hand ...

Re: Slot Interface

There do seem to be a few of us interested in such things, I could imagine a general purpose top slot adapter with some gpio and a microcontroller to pass/get values over rs232 to/from the Psion, I have experimented with some very simple stuff (turning on/off LEDs and reading ADC value) and it work...

Re: Slot Interface

Yes, the top slot and datapack slots have a common 'bus' which is driven from GPIO ports of the processor (a 6303 type processor). I don't know if there are series resistors between the GPIO port and the signals that come out of the slots, but best to assume that there aren't. You can add those seri...

Re: Key handling/structure efficiency?

I have a NC100 too but it has a dead screen, I hope to get it fixed at some point, I bought it with 1 dead line, tried to fix it and made it worse :( there is a thin flex ribbon which sticks on the glass, it had come unbounded to I tried to heat bond it but ended up melting. NC100 has 2 sound chann...

That is hilarious. i think the situation is that it doesn't care.
I think.

Re: Converting 2 line comms link to 4 line?

They are the same pin pitch, but have a narrower body so the 'normal' SOIC parts won't fit on the PCB. They are also fairly pricey: bend the pins and solder like PLCC ;-} Hmm, after having a go at this I've found that they are actually wider than the normal SO28. I have an adapter board that will j...
